Has the EU cut Bulgaria off for Russian oil? – EU

The European Union has proposed a revision of the Russian oil embargo on three EU countries, but Bulgaria is not among them. This is clear from a Bloomberg publication.

Hungary and Slovakia will have one more year – to give up Russian oil by the end of 2024, according to sources.

The Czech Republic also receives a deferral until June 2024.

Victor Orban: Imposing an embargo on Russian oil risks undermining EU unity

All other EU countries, including Bulgaria, must stop supplying Russian oil by the end of this year, according to the original agreement.

A few days ago, the Bulgarian Oil and Gas Association demanded that our country be among the exceptions to the embargo. Then the Minister of Energy Alexander Nikolov told bTV that we will ask this from the EU.

Minister Nikolov: We will certainly ask the EC to postpone the embargo on Russian oil

Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia are dependent on Russian oil, but account for a small share of Moscow’s total fuel imports. The three countries will be barred from selling their stocks to others. The Czech exemption could end earlier if the Trans-Alpine oil pipeline is completed on time.

Ursula von der Leyen told an audience in Germany that unification over oil sanctions will not be easy and will take days before a final deal is reached.
