Has not completed any game, Latvian handball team coach recalled – Other sports – Apollo.lv – Sports

Cirke was confirmed as head coach in February, but with the cancellation of the World Cup qualifiers, he was not able to lead the national team in any of the matches.

As Blome explained, Cirke will not lead the national team, as he would have to spend ten days in self-isolation in Germany when he returned from the European Championship qualifiers scheduled for November.

He trains the German second Bundesliga team TV Emsdetten, so his quarantine would prevent him from performing his duties at the club. Cīrke is also not sure whether the matches will be played at all in November.

Blome noted that a new head coach will be approved in the near future.

Cirke was born in 1972 in the German city of Kaltenkirchen. At the beginning of the player’s career, Cīrke represented the German club “Kiel” from 1989-1993. Continuing his career until 2004, Cirke played for German teams such as VfL Bad Schwartau, SG Flensburg, VfL Gummersbach, VfL Hammeln and GWD Minden.

In 2004, Cīrke ended his career as a professional player due to a shoulder injury. He has represented the German national handball team in 24 games. In the 1998 European Championship, together with the German national team, Cirkke won a bronze medal. Cīrke has also represented the German beach handball team.

Cīrke started his coaching career in 2005, when he became the head coach of the second team of “GWD Minden”, as well as an assistant in the Bundesliga team. From 2014 to 2016, Cirke led the German second Bundesliga club “Empor Rostock”, followed by three years at another German club “TuS N-Lubbecke”, which during this time fought in both the first and second German Bundesliga. With the teams “Minden” and “N-Lubbecke”, the coach managed to triumph in the second German league.

This winter, Cīrke was confirmed as the head coach of the German Second Bundesliga club “TV Emsdetten”, which was represented at that time by one of the leaders of the Latvian national team Aivis Jurdžs.

Before Cīrke was confirmed, LHF decided not to continue cooperating with the former head coach of the Latvian national team Armands Uščins after the expiration of the contract. He led the team from May 2017, helping it qualify for the first time in history for the European Championship final.
