Harsh fines if you’re caught talking on the phone while driving – 2024-03-02 21:53:45

New road safety rules and a drastic jump in some fines in Italy. Using a phone behind the wheel, for example, will cost up to 1,700 euros, while in our country this dangerous offense goes largely unpunished.

One of the most innovative measures against road warfare is the so-called “alcolock” – a device that prevents the engine from starting if the blood alcohol level exceeds zero percent, bTV reported.

For those who have already been convicted of drink driving, the obligation to place this device in their vehicle has been introduced.

And here are the new fines

For speeding in populated areas, the penalties are up to 1,100 euros and the revocation of the license for 15 to 30 days.

A positive result in the rapid drug test immediately leads to the revocation of the driver’s license, and subsequently to the ban on its restoration for three years.

In the event of a repeat violation, the driver’s license will be revoked for life.

If a driver is caught with a phone behind the wheel twice within two years, they will pay up to €2,588 and be given penalty points – eight for the first offense and 10 points for the second.

The measures are aimed at reducing road accidents in Italy. According to the latest statistics for 2022, there were nearly 3,200 dead and over 200,000 injured.

According to analysts, the main cause of deaths in Italy is speeding.
