Harsh autumn weather in sight

Many places in the country experienced night frosts in the night until Tuesday. According to the meteorologist on duty, this is due to low clouds and calm wind conditions.

Even on Wednesday night the temperature is expected to drop below 0 degrees in several locations in eastern Norway and parts of Agder.

– Last night until today (Tuesday), several mountain stations measured 7-8 degrees minus, which is not unusual. But even in the lowlands there were temperatures below freezing and in some places as low as -3, says Per Egil Haga.

He adds that this is the expected level for the next 24 hours as well and that more people may have to scratch the grid on Wednesday morning.

Low pressure dominated

Later in the week, however, it will be milder. Towards the end of the week, the entire kingdom will be dominated by low pressure moving from the Atlantic to the Norwegian coast and mainland.

– There are milder air masses from the south and southwest. Then there will also be precipitation. Also in Agder and the rest of eastern Norway, especially on Friday. It’s not about large quantities, but maybe 5-10 millimeters in some places, says Haga.

A good amount of precipitation is also expected in Rogaland and Vestland counties, where it can be up to 40-50 millimeters.

– Especially in northern Vestland County, there can be a good contribution to reservoir filling, the forecaster added.

Haga says strong low pressure is expected for the mainland at the end of the week and early next week. He brings with him a lot of wind from the west and north to Trøndelag, Nordland, Troms and Finnmark.

– It might look like the first fall thunderstorm on land. Eastern Norway, however, does not have a storm. The low pressure brings rainfall and mild weather across the country.

Freddo

Nor does Spitsbergen escape, which can expect strong winds and a good deal of rainfall this week.

The low pressure that dominates this week won’t move much next week either, but it will remain. For much of the country, temperatures will be below normal and cool weather is expected in most places. Perhaps with the exception of Troms and Finnmark. It also involves some precipitation activity.

– This does not mean that it will be cold, but cooler. It won’t be colder at night than it is now, but noticeably colder during the day. Cooler days and more wind. Acid autumn weather is probably the right thing to call it, says Haga.
