With his number Watermelon Sugar Harry Styles has topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for the first time. Never before has the Briton topped the most important US chart, not even with One Direction.
The 26-year-old singer rose from seventh to first place this week with his new single. Previously, his highest ranked position was fourth place, which he achieved in 2017 with Sign of the Times. Earlier this year, the singer was in sixth place with Adore You. That number comes just like Watermelon Sugar from his second solo album Fine Line.
Styles is the second former One Direction member to top the Billboard Hot 100. Zayn Malik did this in 2016 with the song Pillowtalk.
One Direction never made it to No. 1 in the US. The boy band did score second place with the song in 2013 Best Song Ever. The group was also in the top ten with five other songs. Three years later, the band announced it was taking a break., The group has not released any new work since. Shortly before the break, Malik left the band.
