• Neymar was on trial at Real Madrid as a teenager, but it wasn’t until years later that he found a home in Spain with Barcelona. He made his breakthrough in Brazil at 17, whereupon West Ham and Chelsea tried in vain to bring him to Europe.
• He scored a final goal in the 2011 Copa Libertadores triumph. For the first time since 1963 (then still with Pelé) Santos was able to win the South American counterpart to the UEFA Champions League.
