Rush is celebrating his 71st birthday today, July 6th, so he got flowers from the hostess and a packed house sang “Happy Birthday” to him, much to the actor’s delight. He made notes with the audience and accepted the gesture and subsequent applause with joy.

“It was originally a stage script and some parts remained. There were some scenes that were ten to twelve pages long on paper. And Colin (the actor Colin Firth played the lead role of the king – note) and I thought if the audience would be interested in watching two middle-aged guys sitting in a room and one of them stutters and the other is Australian, ” the actor entertained the audience with a recollection of the discussions over the film’s script.

“It ended up being the kind of low-budget indie film that moved people and had a huge impact. Maybe because it was such a strange relationship of conflict between the king and his therapist. They showed the film even during covid, even though it is 12 years old. I’ve seen it picked up by many streaming services, new reviews written, written about as a feel-good movie even though we live in difficult times. So it was very successful, Colin was very successful, he won an Oscar for the role. And then I felt like going around all the posters and writing there ‘not the King’s Speech, but the King’s Speech Therapist,'” the actor said with a smile.

He then added that it was an honor for him to be at the festival and wished the audience a nice film experience.

For the drama The King’s Speech, the actor was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe or a BAFTA award. At the Karlovy Vary film festival, he will also personally present the films Záre and Quills – Perem marquise de Sade.
