Happiness more important than money for Vettel in contract negotiations NOW

Sebastian Vettel has fun playing a major role in his decision to renew his contract with Ferrari. The four-time world champion is talking to the Italian racing stable about his commitment that will expire at the end of the year.

“I am realistic, in ten years I will no longer drive in Formula 1”, 32-year-old Vettel told Thursday Motorsport. “I think it goes without saying that you sometimes think about what comes after Formula 1.”

“I am in the privileged position to try a lot of things as soon as I quit Formula 1. Maybe I will race in a different class, do something different in the racing world, or maybe something completely different outside the racing world. I I have some ideas, but have not yet decided and I am very relaxed. “

Shortly before the season start of Formula 1 had to be postponed due to the corona virus, Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto already reported that he is talking to Vettel about his expiring contract. The German has been with Ferrari since 2015, but never managed to win the world title with that team.

‘Many athletes and business people are driven by money’

Vettel’s younger teammate Charles Leclerc already signed a contract in the winter that will bind him to Ferrari until the end of 2024. It is expected that soon it will become clear whether Vettel will drive for the Scuderia in 2021 at least.

The driver himself seems to have doubts. “It’s about what’s important to you, what drives you,” said Vettel.

“If money is your motivation, you can go far and become very successful. There are many athletes and businessmen who are driven by money. The question is when you feel you have enough.”

By racing at top speeds of over 300 kilometers per hour, Formula 1 is different from other tracks, Vettel emphasizes. “We put our lives at risk, you have to appreciate that. And our careers are shorter than those in other professions. The most important thing is that you are happy. That is the deciding factor for me.”

Due to the corona virus, the first eight races of the Formula 1 season have been canceled. The first race still on the calendar is the Canadian Grand Prix on June 14.
