Does the ideal tire exist? In Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton has accustomed us to perfection in his riding, he would like to see the tire manufacturer do the same. The six-time World Champion dreams of driving his Mercedes equipped with a rubber capable of providing maximum grip for many laps, without deteriorating too quickly or overheating. Impossible, replies Pirelli, regularly targeted by critics since his arrival in F1 almost ten years ago. Critics which, after having faded in recent years, seem to be resuming more recently.
His voice carries and he knows it. So Hamilton even became the spokesperson for this cause, deploring in passing that the pilots are the only ones to step up. “When there was a tire war, there were lighter cars”, admits the Briton. “But there were two companies [Bridgestone et Michelin] that were pushing their limits and today, no one pushes Pirelli except us [les pilotes] with what we say. However, we must be very careful because we must not upset Pirelli. We try to be constructive and to interact with them. “
