At the British Grand Prix, world champion and previous year’s winner Lewis Hamilton actually drove towards a safe victory. But in the last round there was a lot of rattling with the successful silver arrows. Nevertheless, Hamilton celebrated his 7th home win – this is a new record.

The race on Sunday afternoon started with a bang: At the end of lap 1 Kevin Magnussen in Haas and Alexander Albon in Red Bull got in the way in midfield, the Dane flew off the track and got stuck in the gravel bed with only 3 wheels, Albon stayed in the race. Thus, the safety car had to disengage in round 2. After lap 5 the track was released again, Hamilton was able to close a small gap between himself and his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas. After 10 laps, Bottas was almost 2 seconds behind, Max Verstappen in the Red Bull already over 6 seconds.

After the restart, McLaren drivers Carlos Sainz Jr. and Lando Norris pushed past Daniel Ricciardo in the Renault, while Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel slowed down and was pushed out of the top 10 by Esteban Ocon in the Renault. After Grosjean had to pit to change tires, Vettel slipped back into the points before Pierre Gasly overtook him in the Alpha Tauri; 3 laps before the end, Gasly also passed Lance Stroll at Racing Point.
