Sirens sounded in several Israeli cities this afternoon after missiles were fired from Gaza. Hamas, the group that controls Gaza, has claimed the rocket attacks, along with the radical Islamic Jihad movement.
In Jerusalem too, the sirens rang and bangs were heard. Palestinians in Jerusalem responded with cheers. It is the first time since the war between Israel and Hamas in 2014 that sirens sounded in Jerusalem due to incoming missiles.
The Israeli army responded with air strikes on Gaza. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, nine Palestinians, including three children, were killed in Israeli air strikes in northern Gaza. Palestinian media reports.
The children were killed by a failed rocket launch from Gaza, the Israeli army said. The military also claims to have killed three Hamas members in an air raid.
According to the Israeli army, six missiles fired at Jerusalem have landed in open area. One missile could be intercepted by Israeli anti-aircraft systems. According to Israel’s Channel 12, a house in Mevaseret Zion, a suburb of Jerusalem, was damaged by a missile impact.
