Although the driver’s identity is unknown, Israeli security forces say it was an “intentional attack”.
The Israeli Army reports that a large-scale search is underway to locate the driver of the vehicle that ran away after running over soldiers who were walking by a military compound in a busy area of Jerusalem.
The Israeli emergency service reported that the 14 injured were transported to hospitals in the area and that one of them has serious injuries.
This is the first intentional run over of the year, and at a time of great tension after the announcement of the United States peace plan for the Middle East.
For Hamas, the attack on Israel’s soldiers was “a response” against US President Donald Trump’s plan for the Middle East.
“The resistance operation in central Jerusalem is a response from our people against the destruction of (Donald) Trump,” Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said in a statement.
