Hairstyles and containment: “Areola lets hair grow, it looks like a Kiki plush” – Football

As the confinement drags on, sports stars, often adept at changing haircuts, no longer have the opportunity to go to their hairdressers. Like all of us, they are trying to come up with homemade solutions, as Caiolas Barber, a Parisian hairdresser used to accompanying them, explains. A breathtaking interview.

59%. If France agrees on one point, this is it. As soon as the confinement was lifted, 59% of French people said they wanted to go to the hairdresser to refresh their haircuts, according to a Harris poll. Sports stars are no exception to the rule. Confined, they had to develop certain strategies to avoid the capillary odd.

Some took advice from Caiolas Barber. Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann or many 2018 world champions passed between his expert scissors. For Eurosport, he evokes the capillary difficulties linked to confinement. And give some advice to follow, for everyone.

Are you still working right now? How does it work during confinement?

Caiolas Barber: For me, working at this time is out of the question. If everyone does it like that, it will take less time to overcome this bullshit. I have colleagues in hairdressing who secretly open their salons and who are a bit crazy …

Are you in contact with athletes that you usually style? Where are they capillarily speaking?

C.B: I had Presnel Kimpembe on the phone who told me he was going to shave his head. He said, “This is a good opportunity to start all over again.” So he completely shaved his head. Same for Evan Fournier. They all tell me that it feels good to start from scratch, that the skin will finally be able to breathe. We are still several weeks confined a priori, as much to shave everything and try new things.

No one called you panicked about shaving on your own?

C.B: You shouldn’t lie to each other, there are athletes who bring hairdressers to their homes. Others respect confinement, it is the case of my clients in any case. But when, in the current period, some have a perfect cut, with a progressive gradient, white contours, a nickel chrome cut, it is IM-PO-SSI-BLE. Even as a hairdresser, cutting your hair on your own is a pain.

We saw on social networks different strategies among footballers during this confinement. What is your advice, shave everything?

C.B: The first option is to shave your head. In two months, there is time for it to grow back and start from scratch. Others have tried to let the hair grow during confinement. This is the case of Alphonse Areola, with whom I speak very often. I don’t know if you know what it is, but it looks like a Kiki plush (laughs). He has a bunch … Alphonse looks like that right now. But it is voluntary, it is to lead to something new afterwards. He said to me: “There, I look like nothing but I don’t care, I stay at home”. It is the most important.

And Paul Pogba? We saw it with a banner on Instagram …

C.B: Paul, he’s a long-time friend. He’s the guy who most often changes haircuts. The last time he came to Paris, we dyed him blond. But I know it by heart. There, I think he shaved his head and let it grow by putting on his headband to make waves.

That is to say ?

C.B: These are waves. To achieve this, you have to put the durag that you put on the skull with a kind of product so that it flattens and makes waves.

Do you have other recent examples in mind?

C.B: There is Tony (Yoka, Editor’s note)! He broke down and completely shaved his head. I got it by message, he told me it was too hot. He even did it to his son. Most take it as a game, actually. “We will recover fresh after confinement” is a bit of a rhetoric.

The tutorials on Youtube to cut your own hair have been a real success…

C.B: Honestly, it’s so complicated to cut your hair on your own. All Youtube videos are mytho. The guy who gets into it without any experience, it’s a disaster, it’s over. I really don’t recommend it. My advice is just to try to work out before going to the hairdresser at the end of the confinement with a little clean.
