hairdressers are up against the new gauge

It is the consternation in the hairdressing salons: they have just learned of the new health protocol presented this Thursday by the government, which must accompany the reopening of shops on Saturday.

“It is not tenable”

One of the measures provides for an occupancy gauge of 8 m² per person, rather than 4 m². In other words, the maximum number of customers will be halved.

With an average area of a hairdressing salon which is around 45 to 50 m², “it is not tenable” assures the president of the National Union of Hairdressing Companies, Christophe Doré, especially with clients who must respect pause time (color, treatment …) more or less long.

Thursday morning, Prime Minister Jean Castex did not seem open to a discussion on this point.

Home services favored

While they demand conditions better suited to their profession, without which “professionals risk working at a loss”, others are crumbling under demands …

In fact, upon the announcement of the reopening of home services, the wecasa site, specializing in hairdressing and aesthetics at home, has literally exploded, with an increase of 700% more appointment requests than normal …

“The salons were taken by storm”

In Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) Marie, a 33-year-old human resources executive, is one of those French people who, after the first spring confinement, decided to bring a professional to her home.

“Our home having become a bit of a cocoon, I decided to bring a hairdresser to my home. It was not only very reassuring, but the salons were taken by storm. I had the same quality of service as I did. in town at identical prices: I paid 48.50 euros for a haircut, a treatment and a brushing “.

And that, in a respect of gestures barriers “wider”, according to her: “Wearing a mask is compulsory and we disinfect our hands, of course, but it is also up to us to open the doors, for example” .

Don’t want to “mix”

Due to the epidemic, she admits that she did not want to “mix” with the clientele, and that at the same time, she needed her accommodation “to be something other than a telework place” : “I found someone who could come within two hours. The hours are wide, there are even possibilities on Sundays …”

After trying home massage several times, she is now considering a manicure. She is not the only one: since May 11, the figures for beauty treatments at home have also jumped: they have tripled compared to last year on the platform, and hair removal and manicure appointments have doubled at the end of July.
