Hagi is no longer the coach of Constanta, which he owns

Former Romanian footballer Gheorghe Hagi has resigned from the club’s Viitorul Konstanta coach after six years due to poor results. Konstanta did not qualify for the title of six this year. According to Hagi, he and the club president must find a new coach as soon as possible.

The 55-year-old Hagi founded the club in Constanta in 2009 and led him to the title from the third league eight years later. Last year, he celebrated winning the home cup. He also previously coached the Romanian national team, Steauu Bucharest, Timisoara, Bursaspor and Galatasaray.

The former midfielder is considered the best Romanian footballer of all time, thanks to his excellent kicking technique he earned the nickname Maradona from the Carpathians. During his playing career, Hagi wore the jerseys of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Galatasaraye, with whom he won the UEFA Cup in 2000. He ended his career in 2001.

Hagi’s son Ianis also played for Viitorul, who last year transferred to Genk, Belgium for eight million euros (almost 205 million crowns). He now plays for the Glasgow Rangers.
