Gustavo Cerati: 12 years after his last concert

it was 12 years ago, when one of the best voices in Spanish rock sounded for the last time in a concert. It was that night in Caracas when Gustavo Cerati said goodbye to the stage foreveryes of life.

The appointment was at the Simón Bolívar stadium in Venezuela, as part of the tour of Natural force, same that would take him to other Latin countries and later to Spain. After giving the public his hits as a soloist and as Soda Stereo, Cerati said goodbye with ‘Lago en el Cielo’, a song that has become more than immortal and timeless.

Moments after the concert, some people realized that Gustavo was not well, so they decided to take him to a hospital. After three days of uncertainty from family, friends, followers and the entire musical world, a statement was released in which it was reported that Gustavo had suffered a stroke that caused him to fall into a coma.

“The computed tomography performed upon admission showed an extensive infarction in the left cerebral hemisphere and damage to the brain stem,” said almost three weeks later the medical report of the Fleni Sanatorium, which received the musician who had just arrived from Venezuela in an ambulance plane.

The music world was shocked by the news, one of the most iconic voices had stopped listening and was now fighting for his life, in bed. From that moment on, the whole world of Gustavo Cerati was involved in speculations, hypotheses and accusations.

Excesses, medical history, emergency operations and treatments were just a few things that a faded Cerati endured for four years, when on September 4, 2014, he died.

Hoy, Almost 10 years after his death, Gustavo’s music continues to resound in millions of earsas a voice that marked generations and made them vibrate with its incredible melodies.​
