GT World Challenge, Valentino Rossi avoids an accident at the start and is 13th in race-1 at Brands Hatch. Ferrari wins

Valentino Rossi’s first sprint race ends in 13th place in the GT World Challenge Europe at Brands Hatch, in cohabitation with the Belgian Frederic Vervisch aboard the Audi of Team WRT # 46. In the first of the two hour-long heats on the British track, the “Doctor” risks big at the startbordering on an accidentwhich knocks out three single-seaters and forces the entry of the safety car for the first ten full minutes of the race, but takes advantage of it to gain some positions compared to 17th place on the grid. The driver change takes place just before the half hour, with Rossi 15th provisionally, the expert Belgian companion benefits from the quick pit stop to find himself two positions higher and stay there until the checkered flag. A better result than the 17th of the 3 Hours of Imola, however, influenced by the error at the pit stop of the legend of Tavullia. This time, however, Rossi was very skilled in the moment of the driver change. –

Italy also protagonist in the morning of Brands Hatch: the Ferrari 488 of Ulysse De Pauw and Pierre Alexandre Jean won the surprise Sprint Cup race-1 (AF Corse # 53). A surprise victory for the Prancing Horse, after the pole position, given that the car belongs to the Silver category, and it is only the fourth time that this has happened in the history of this championship. The best of the Pro class cars is in fact that of the reigning champions Charles Weerts and Dries Vanthoor, team mates of Valentino Rossi, second. Third place for the Italian-born rider Raffaele Marcielloaboard the Mercedes AKKODIS ASP # 89protagonist of a great comeback in the second half of the racetwo exceptional overtakes on Luca Ghiotto and Jim Pla.

Off the podium after a first half of the race in pursuit of first place for the other Mercedes of the Frenchmen Jules Gounon and Jim Pla: a problem in the assembly of a wheel during the pit stop influenced the exit from the podium, compromising an excellent start of the race by the first of the two transalpines. The all-Italian couple of the Tresor by Car # 12 (Audi) team composed of Mattia Drudi and Luca Ghiotto slipped from the podium area to sixth position, with the Rimini-born third before the driver change.

Valentino Rossi took part in the first part of the hour at the Brands Hatch circuit, on which the legend of Tavullia he had never raced in the past. First launch of the career, therefore, and immediately a thrill: right in front of him, in fact, another Audi of the WRT Team misses the trajectory at the entrance of turn 1 and animates a carom. The Doctor is cold-blooded, he manages to avoid the impact and immediately recover three positions, above all due to the demerit of the cars that ended up in the gravel. –

Once again, as in Imola, much of the performance is disputed by Vale under the safety car. On the next lap of the start, Rossi is surprised by Oliver Wilkinson’s McLaren Jota, which blows him the fourteenth position along the starting straight. Final in crescendo of the Doctor, who goes back under the car that had passed him previously, before being called back to the pits to make room for the more experienced Frederic Vervisch.

At the end of the mandatory driver change window, the 35-year-old Belgian in the Audi number 46 finds himself thirteenth, but always behind the Jota number 38, which sees the other British Rob Bell at the wheel. Although less than ten minutes from the checkered flag he was brought within a few tenths of a gap, the overtaking did not materialize.

The Doctor will also be back on track in race-2, scheduled at 5.45pm (here the live of the race). This time the position on the starting grid is better (11th) and the possibility of seizing the first top-10 of his career in his new adventure as a rookie on four covered wheels becomes concrete.-
