On the morning of May 4, during the press conference of the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (STPS), Luisa María Alcalde Luján, exhibited Elektra for the first time as part of the non-essential products companies that refuse to stop activities.

Given this, the company issued a statement in which He assures that he will not follow this instruction since it is essential for the country and supports the most vulnerable sectors.

The company pointed out that, after being in office for more than 70 years, it has become part of the construction of a more prosperous Mexico, since approaches “those who have minor, basic goods and services for the home.

On the other hand, he assured that all the venues have the sanitary measures imposed by the authorities in the National Day of Sana Distancia. In that sense, the company said it is guaranteeing the safety and health of its employees and customers in 100% of the branches.

Elektra will continue with its activities under the argument that, in addition to being important, they are a necessary support “for those who have the least.”

Most Mexicans live daily and do not have the privilege of accessing online purchases or the ease of credit cards; Elektra is for those who need necessary products and services during the emergency

The products that he described as essential for the population are the following: remittances, since their transmission and reception “are the economic support of families and entire communities”; telecommunications, that is, telephony; staple products, including refrigerators to preserve food, microwave ovens and stoves for cooking; computer equipment and televisions; and motorcycles that allow basic input services to continue. He stressed that:

We have suspended the sale of non-essential products, which are cordoned off, as verified by the Federal Consumer Prosecutor

However, the Mexican authorities assure that the thousands of workers who work in companies focused on Non-essential products such as textiles, wood and the automotive industry are at unnecessary risk of contagion.

At “Who’s Who”, Mayor exhibited for the first time to Grupo Elektra, as one of the companies that refuses to close despite the contingency.

“We have Elektra Group in different parts of the country, With more than 10,000 workers, it is a non-essential workplace that refuses to close. We have the case of Autofin here in Mexico City, she is dedicated to selling cars that is not essential, ”said the owner.

Even on May 1, a group of students from the Autonomous University of Mexico City (UACM) reported that their colleague Rodolfo Huvy Cruz Juárez, who worked in a call center from the Elektra collection area, died as a result of COVID-19.

When the federal government approved the declaration of a national health emergency due to force majeure, Salinas refused and he ordered all his employees to keep going to their jobs.

Meanwhile, in Grupo Salinas offices there were five cases of COVID-19 until last week, according to employees of the Elektra company, who reported to the newspaper Political Animal.
