Groupama Méditerranée Leads the Way in Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Implementation in South of France

Groupama Méditerranée has already deployed almost fifty charging points in some of its 250 locations in the South of France. “In our management site in Montpellier, we have twenty charging points, including four fast charging and sixteen up to 7.4 kW; in Aix-en-Provence, fourteen charging points at 11 kW; and in Montélimar as in Avignon, six charging points including two at 11 kW and four at 7 kW,” explains Stéphane Santin, head of strategic purchasing and mobility for this regional branch of the insurer. The Groupama Méditerranée fleet has 460 vehicles including a growing number of electric or plug-in hybrid models.

Groupama anticipates needs

This installation of terminals will continue in 2024. It will be made possible, for the Montpellier and Aix-en-Provence sites, by anticipation of future needs which led, during the installation of the first terminals, to foreseeing the possibilities techniques to double vehicle charging capacities. “We are installing dynamic charging stations to be able to regulate the power according to the needs of the building and those of the cars,” adds Stéphane Santin.

With strong ambitions to electrify its fleet, Groupama Méditerranée is also turning to solutions for recharging at home. “We are testing connected ‘mobile terminals’ solutions for home charging, in order to justify the charges made and issue invoices to compensate employees,” describes Stéphane Santin. These “mobile terminals” are in fact connected charging cables. “They adapt the charging of the vehicle to the electrical power available to the employee,” continues this manager. This cable is geolocatable and provides information on the quantity of electricity consumed by the vehicle, and the mileage traveled on electric power since the last charging for plug-in hybrids. A useful tool for organizing employee compensation.

In a company like the Atlantic Group, home charging is becoming organized little by little. “We started to implement it at the beginning of 2023. Since then, two employees have been working with it, two others are being installed and two others are at the quote stage,” indicates Brieuc Moskowicz, head of the automobile fleet service at this French manufacturer of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and heat pumps. The Atlantic Group relies on a fleet of 900 vehicles, mainly diesel, which is beginning its switch to electrons. Note that the group’s sites are also equipped with charging.

The Atlantic Group plays at home

But with a fleet mainly employed by salespeople, it is mainly home charging that is anticipated by the Atlantic Group. To encourage its employees to equip themselves with home terminals and accelerate the energy transition of the fleet, this company can thus cover half of the installation cost, “with a ceiling of 950 euros excluding tax, while the partner we we referenced offers a package around 1,500 euros excluding tax,” specifies Brieuc Moskowicz. In this context, the installed terminal becomes the property of the employee. He can then benefit from the tax credit of 500 euros from January 1, 2024, which further reduces his remaining liability. And these devices will monitor consumption to reimburse the costs incurred by employees.

A fuel card at Brand France

A specialist in the sale and rental of equipment for construction companies and public and private works, Brand France has started to equip its agencies with terminals that accommodate plug-in hybrids. For its part, the question of home terminals still remains under study. “For their roaming trips, our drivers benefit from a fuel card which can allow them to recharge with electricity,” underlines Gérald Grizard, overheads buyer, at the head of a fleet of 235 vehicles, still 90% diesel.

Groupama Méditerranée prioritizes recharging

To organize the use of its parking spaces equipped with terminals, Groupama Méditerranée uses the Sharvy tool intended to regulate the use of parking lots. “We have configured this tool so that all employees who drive a low-emission vehicle have priority in charging zones, over half-day periods, in order to organize vehicle rotations. And it works well,” says Stéphane Santin. Reservations take into account the nature of the vehicles: 100% electric vehicles have priority for fast charging terminals, rechargeable hybrids for slow charging terminals. “And when we have doubled our charging area with around forty terminals in Montpellier, we will go further by offering employees the possibility of connecting privately,” plans Stéphane Santin.
