Großkrotzenburg – He had to cancel all exhibitions since the end of March. Now the artist Orlando Li Sánchez is reopening his Colibri gallery. “If we don’t do anything, nothing will change,” he says and is organizing two exhibitions by mid-September.

“The future is not what will happen, but what we will do.” These words, translated from Spanish by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, are written on a chalk board that can be found in Li Sánchez’s garden. He has taken wisdom to heart over the past few weeks and he follows action.

For a month now he has reopened his Colibri gallery on the first Sunday of every month. There are “dynamic exhibitions” with different artists. A separate small exhibition room is available for the changing artists. Li Sánchez emphasizes that he is “open to other artists” who would like to exhibit their works.

However, before the open Sundays continue, two longer exhibitions are on the program. From next weekend, Saturday, August 15th to Sunday, August 30th, you can marvel at “the best from past years” in the Colibri Gallery. Artists such as Petra Markert, Emmeli and Thomas Ludz, Gaby Kova, Suli and Michele de Leonardis present a selection of their works. The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

During the two-week exhibition, Li Sánchez will also move his studio a few doors down to the garden of the Colibri Gallery and work on site. Visitors have the opportunity to look over the shoulder of the artist.

And another exhibition has already been scheduled: From Sunday 6th to Sunday 13th September there will be pictures of the hobby artist Gaby Anton, who died in 2018. “She discovered painting for herself while she was suffering from cancer,” explains Li Sánchez. The contact came about through the association “Wunsch am Horizont” from Schöllkrippen, which supports the artist with the organization. “Ms. Anton wanted to do another exhibition in order to support the association with the proceeds of her pictures.” Posthumously, this wish should be fulfilled.

With the opening, Li Sánchez wants to “offer those interested in culture and art a regular meeting place again”. The gallery space on Kirchstrasse has the advantage that it is connected to a garden that is also used. In good weather, the works of art can also be exhibited in the open air.

“We can better implement the currently applicable hygiene and distance rules here.” For example, the gallery in the interior can always be viewed by a maximum of three people. For those who are waiting, the garden, dotted with works of art, also offers cozy seating areas to linger.

The Colibri gallery is located at Kirchstrasse 2 (access via a side street). More information in Internet.
