Grocery Chains Lower Prices on Pizza Grandiosa, Sparking Massive Demand and Restrictions by Major Stores

The price war at the grocery chains is in full swing, and one of the items that has received a massive price cut is Pizza Grandiosa.

Kiwi, Rema 1000 and Extra all reduced the price from 59.90 to 29.90 this week. That corresponds to a whopping 50 percent in price reduction.

Deputy managing director of Coop Midt-Norge, Bjørn Vik-Mo, said on Thursday Trønder-Avisa that the grocery giant so far this week has 300 percent growth in Grandiosa sales compared to the same week last year.

In the last couple of days, Nettavisen’s journalists have observed that several Kiwi shops have been empty of the popular frozen pizza.

As a result, Kiwis have now taken action.

When Nettavisen visited a Kiwi shop in Asker on Friday morning, this appeared:

Kiwi: – Would rather not do that

Director of Communications at Kiwi, Kristine Aakvaag Arvin, tells Nettavisen that this is a move they are making in those stores where they have seen that there has been a great demand and which may therefore run out of the product.

– So to ensure that as many people as possible enjoy the low prices, we have opened the door for the shops to set a limit if they think it is necessary, says Aakvaag Arvin.

She points out that these are prices that last until February at Kiwi, so you have plenty of time to secure the popular pizza.

Aakvaag Arvin is nevertheless clear that they prefer not to set restrictions.

– We want customers to be able to buy as much as they want, but sometimes it may be necessary for a period of time, she says.

Nettavisen has also been in contact with Rema 1000 and Extra to find out if they are taking similar steps as Kiwi.

Sales and marketing director Pia Mellbye at Rema 1000 says that they are well prepared for larger sales, and that as of today they have not set any restrictions on how many pizzas you can buy in one and the same transaction.

At Rema 1000 Nordsida in Steinkjer, they have noticed a lot of activity after the price was lowered.

– On a normal day, we sell between five and ten Grandiosas. On Tuesday we sold over 200, said merchant Anders Juberg Trønder-Avisa Thursday.

Press contact in Coop Norge, Knut Lutnæs, comes with the same message as Rema 1000.

– We don’t set any limits on Grandiosa, but there are many people who now buy Grandiosa when the price is so low, so of course we are working on getting more products, he says.
