Grisel’s dining room for the elderly to stay in town | Radio Zaragoza

To fight against depopulation, global policies are necessary, as well as small gestures. In Grisel, a town of less than 100 inhabitants in the Tarazona region, they are going to open a social dining room for retired people of the municipality with menus at low prices. The City Council aims to achieve a double objective, which the older ones do not leave town in winter and give stability to the only bar in town.

On the flip side of the coin …

A student at the IES Tamarite de Litera still cannot get the school bus to stop in her town, Baells. This 13-year-old teenager has not been able to use school transportation for the entire school year to attend the Tamarite Institute. The mayor of Baells, Antonio Solano, ensures that, until a few days ago, the student’s parents had to accompany her to the center, now they have managed to get the bus to pick her up on the N230 road as it passes through the Baells district. Solano assures that the administrations do not agree to explain why this young woman cannot use this transport as her colleagues do. Therefore, ask the administration to put the batteries and really work in rural areas. From the Government of Aragon they assure that they are working to find a solution. In fact, they acknowledge, they have already solved all the administrative procedures and they are waiting for the new budget for this year 2020 to be opened in order to have the necessary financial resources to make it possible to extend that school route to Baells.

It is a way of promoting the sociability of our elders while ensuring their well-being, as its mayor explains. Javier Martínez Durán. The social dining room will be installed in the only restaurant in town, which will allow the kitchen to be open daily and make the bar more profitable. It will be a diet always supervised by the doctor.

The city council has reserved an item in the budget to subsidize a part of the menu but it also asks help the region so that it supports the initiative “so that when they talk about Spain being emptied, our towns do not empty out for us because older people do not have the resources or the elements to stay.”

It is not the only municipality that starts a soup kitchen this year, in Santa Cruz, the city council will open one so that the elderly do not have to eat alone.
