sport">Stroll provided a curious moment during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Just as Nicholas Latifi (Williams) was about to pass, Stroll turned to the right and hit his compatriot. Latifi then made a big bang in the wall. For both drivers, the session was over due to the damage sustained.
sport">According to the stewards, Stroll was the main culprit, because he did not properly assess the situation. The three-place penalty normally doesn’t affect his starting position, as he has to start at the back anyway. He has now received seven penalty points in the past year. With twelve penalty points in a twelve month period, a driver is not allowed to participate in one race.
sport">Nevertheless, he will start on Sunday as nineteenth. In the car of Albon (Williams) too little petrol was found by the race management. Therefore, the Thai was disqualified after qualifying and so he had to start last Sunday.
Busy with the stewards
sport">Sergio Perez also had to report to the stewards. He would not have gone off the gas in time at the yellow flag after the incident with George Russell in Q2. RedBull has said it does not expect the Mexican to receive a grid penalty.
