Green Left Party Holds Campaign Events in Europe Ahead of Turkish Elections

The Green Left Party (Yeşil Sol Parti, YSP) held campaign events in Munich and Vienna. Presidential and parliamentary elections will take place in Turkey on May 14th. For the 3,286,786 eligible voters abroad, voting in 177 representations in 74 countries begins on April 27th and is possible until May 9th. You can vote in the diplomatic missions on weekdays and weekends between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., in the consulates general until 6 p.m. Voting is also possible at customs offices. If the presidential elections go into the second round, eligible voters abroad can vote from May 20-24.

The Yeşil Sol Parti is supported by the HDP as the second largest opposition party in Turkey and also has a European representation. The HDP itself does not stand in the elections due to the ban proceedings against it.

Various campaign events of the Yeşil Sol Parti took place in Europe on Saturday. The Kurdish exile politician Necdet Atalay, Sait Öztürk as co-chairman of the Kurdish association FED-GEL and Brigitte Wolf from the party DIE LINKE spoke at a ceremony on the Odeonsplatz in Munich.

Campaign event in Vienna

A hall event took place in Vienna, at which the HDP MP Garo Paylan appeared as a speaker. At the beginning, the genocide of the Armenians was remembered, which began with the arrest of the Armenian elite on April 24, 1915 in Constantinople. Those who died in the liberation struggle were also included in the commemoration.

In his speech, Garo Paylan called for voting for the Yeşil Sol Parti in Turkey’s parliamentary elections and bringing about regime change: “The entire country has become a prison. It’s time to break through the prison walls. If we don’t stop fascism, we will meet again in prison. Every vote cast can open the door to freedom. We must all work towards this. For Selahattin Demirtaş, for Sebahat Tuncel, for Figen Yüksekdağ, for Gültan Kışanak and all our imprisoned friends. Let’s mobilize to liberate Turkey.”
