Bobo.id – Last September 2022, a mysterious sight was caught on camera over the sky of Japan.

In the video recorded by a motion-detection camera outside the Hiratsuka City Museum, Japan, a green laser beam can be seen flashing past.

At the time the event occurred, no one could explain what the fast-flying object with the green light was.

However, with further examination, scientists are now starting to find answers.

Apparently, the green laser light comes from outer space, emitted directly by one of the NASA satellites orbiting the earth.

Well, the ICESat-2 satellite (The Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite 2) which at that time was flying over the Hiratsuka museum, Japan, so that the laser light was caught.

Reported from space.comthe ICESat-2 satellite was launched into space in September 2018.

Inside the satellite, it is indeed equipped with a laser and special detection devices to measure the height of the ice sheet, the thickness of sea ice, and the topography of the land on Earth.

The laser instrument on the ICESat-2 is called a Lidar sensor (Light Detection and Ranging), is used to generate precise 3D measurements.

When working, this Lidar system will fire 10,000 times per second, and send six beams of light to Earth.

Later, these photons will reflect and return to the satellite, so that the required measurement results can be fulfilled.
