Greek PM Reveals Deadly Train Vs Train Collision Due to Human Error

Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis commented on the ‘bullfighting’ collision of a passenger train with a cargo train on Greece. Mitsotakis uncovers the cause accident death that killed dozens of people.

“Everything indicates that the drama was, unfortunately, primarily due to tragic human error,” Mitsotakis said.

Mitsotakis said the train accident was the most horrific of his life in Greece. He ensured that his party would still fully investigate the train accident.

“This is a horrific train accident without precedent in Greece which will be fully investigated,” he said.

Meanwhile, rescue workers who evacuated the victims also opened their voices. According to him, this accident was the most severe in his life.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” said one rescue worker.

“This is tragic. Five hours later, we found a body,” he continued.

Greek transport minister Kostas Karamanlis decided to submit his resignation. He made this decision several hours after the fatal accident occurred.

“When something so tragic happens, we cannot continue as if nothing happened,” Kostas Karamanlis said in a public statement.

So far, 38 people have died as a result of this incident. Then, 57 people are still being treated in hospital.

Chronology of train crashes in Greece

For information, the accident occurred on Tuesday (28/2) night. The governor of Thessaly region, Konstantinos Agorastos, said initially a passenger train was running from Athens to Thessaloniki.

Then, the train collided with a cargo train traveling outside the city of Larissa, central Greece. The cargo train was running from Thessaloniki towards Larissa. The two trains collided into each other at the front of the ‘bullfight’.

The passenger train was reportedly carrying a total of 350 passengers. About 250 of the passengers have been evacuated and taken to Thessaloniki by buses.
