Greece outraged by Turkey’s reaction to its agreement with France

The agreement with France is a “purely defensive agreement” and is not directed against anyone, they stressed in Greece.

Turkey’s remarks over the Greek-French defense agreement are “totally unacceptable.” This was stated by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, informs Ekathimerini on Friday October 1st.

“If Turkey is worried about these agreements, it can only mean that it considers itself a potential aggressor,” Dendias said.

“Our agreement with France is a purely defensive agreement. It is not directed against anyone,” the minister added.

“I signed a similar agreement with the United Arab Emirates about a year ago. In the context of other defense priorities of these agreements, I would like to say that Turkey’s statements are absolutely unacceptable,” concluded Dendias.

Recall that earlier Greece agreed on buying frigates from France… The French President called the agreement “the first daring step towards European strategic autonomy.”

In turn, Turkey said that Greece’s purchase of French frigates hurts NATOand added that Greece’s actions will also strengthen Turkey’s resolve to defend its rights in the Aegean and Mediterranean seas.
