Great White Shark Jekyll Vacationing off the Coast of Long Island

NEW YORK — A great white shark named Jekyll appears to be vacationing off the coast of Long Island.

The OCEARCH scientific group tagged the shark last December off Jekyll Island in Georgia. The juvenile male shark is 8 feet 8 inches long.

Jekyll, who weighs approximately 400 pounds, was first seen in the area Friday night. On Sunday morning I was swimming close to shore.

“We’re excited to see where he spends his summer and fall,” the group tweeted Monday night.

OCEARCH says this is the first time it has been able to track the shark’s movement near New York.
