Grapperhaus fills up during debate | Inland

The credibility of the CDA minister is at stake after new footage of the wedding party in the villa village of Bloemendaal. It can be seen how Grapperhaus itself does not take it so closely with the corona rules.

“I am sorry,” says Grapperhaus. “As a minister I should set a good example. All preparations were aimed at making it a safe and beautiful day. ”

Misjudged

The minister says he has canceled the original plan of the wedding to keep it small and safe. “I misjudged it. People have come too close together, ”says Grapperhaus. “I also misjudged myself. When I saw the photos, I realized: I didn’t do it right myself. ” The minister is full when he says that he and his wife have looked back at the wedding. He repeats it emotionally: “If only we had celebrated it together.”

The justice minister says that he can continue to operate ‘credibly’. “I fully support the corona policy.” He does speak of a ‘visible dent’.

PVV leader Geert Wilders thinks that the minister has lost his authority: “Not with the boas, but with a lot of people in the Netherlands. Trust comes on foot and goes on horseback. ” The leader of the largest opposition party thinks that Grapperhaus should give up his portfolio in the field of corona matters. “The national interest requires a minister who does not have to regain confidence day in and day out.”

Critical

SP leader Lilian Marijnissen finds it difficult that the minister has not spoken the truth in an apology statement. The CDA minister wrote that hugs had been replaced by elbows. Photos show the minister embracing his mother-in-law.

All parties in the House are critical of the Grapperhaus issue. The opposition is pressuring the cabinet to ease penalties for violations.

Several parties want to get rid of the entry in the criminal record. Coalition party VVD wants the memorandum to be temporary.

Grapperhaus says he wants to seriously investigate whether the amount of the corona fine can be reduced. He also wants to talk to the House about an alternative to the entry in the criminal record. He thereby leaves the door ajar for change.

Tearing up fines handed out, as Wilders wants, does not like Grapperhaus. Prime Minister Mark Rutte supports his minister. “I am convinced that precisely because he admits the mistake, he will restore authority.”
