Grandal, Cease guided the White Sox to Detroit

DETROIT — Dylan Cease was undefeated in 10 starts against Detroit and Yasmani Grandal hit a two-run homer to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Tigers on Saturday.

Cease (1-0) allowed one run and two hits in just over five innings, with eight strikeouts and three walks. He is 9-0 against the Tigers.

Aaron Bummer gave up a single to Miguel Cabrera and another to Jonathan Schoop in the top of the ninth, but struck out Eric Haase, Spencer Torkelson and pinch-hitter Dustin Garneau for his first save.

Chicago’s AJ Pollock left with a tight right hamstring after hitting a single to lead off third and go to first. Pollock started the season going 4-for-7 after he was acquired on April 1 from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade for closer Craig Kimbrel.

Eloy Jimenez hit a two-out, two-run single in the first inning. José Abreu had two hits and two runs for the White Sox, who rebounded from a 5-3 loss on Day 1.

For the White Sox, Cubans José Abreu, 4-2 with two runs scored, Grandal 4-1 with one run scored and two RBIs. The Dominicans Jiménez 4-1 with two RBIs, Leury García 4-0.

For the Tigres, Puerto Rican Javier Báez 4-2. The Dominican Jeimer Candelario 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI. The Venezuelan Cabrera 3-1.
