Grab Opens Voice After Asked by Luhut and Bahlil to Move Head Office to RI

Minister of Investment/Investment Coordinating Agency (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia agrees with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan regarding the transfer of the head office (headquarter) Grab to Indonesia.

According to Bahlil, relocating Grab’s head office to Indonesia is an obligation. “If asked whether it makes sense or not for him to move, I think it is mandatory,” said Bahlil at the Ministry of Investment Building, Wednesday (20/7/2022).

In response to this, Grab Indonesia opened its voice. Grab said it had inaugurated the Grab Tech Center in Jakarta since November 2020.

“Grab Tech Center is Grab’s innovation center in Southeast Asia which also acts as Grab’s dual headquarter in Indonesia and is intended to produce Indonesian-made innovations for the development of Indonesian SMEs,” said Grab Indonesia Director of Central Public Affairs Tirza Reinata Munusamy in a written statement, Wednesday. (20/7/2022).

According to Tirza, as a business actor running a business in Indonesia, Grab have a long-term and sustainable commitment in the country. Grab stated that it will carry out its mission to make a positive impact on the people who depend on its platform.

Previously, Luhut and Bahlil agreed and asked Grab to move its head office to Indonesia. According to Bahlil, Grab’s market share is actually bigger in Indonesia than in Singapore. The former chairman of HIPMI said he had persuaded Grab management to move to Indonesia.

“So that the list of companies is here, and I agree, that’s a thought that must be supported,” said Bahlil.

Luhut asks the head office Grab moved to Indonesia. He wished there was no more dual-headquarter Grab in Indonesia and Singapore. This was said by Luhut while attending the launch of Grab Electric at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (12/7/2022).

Luhut alluded to Grab, which prints a lot of money in Indonesia, but its head office is in Singapore. He also briefly mentioned a palm oil company doing the same thing.

“Making the most money in Indonesia, he lives in Singapore. All palm oil is also ordered to move, so that we can make Indonesia great, we are the ones who make Indonesia great,” he said.
