Pierre Wunsch, the governor of the National Bank, warns Wallonia of an ecological plan for scientists and companies, which calls for additional government investment in the green economy. In an interview on the UCL website, Wunsch points out that government expenditure in Wallonia is already very high and that “the economic structure depends on transfers from Flanders”. “Wallonia is likely to account for 70 percent of public spending by 2021-2022. That is, we are closer to a communist regime than to a neo-liberal regime, which some warn against. ”

Walloon Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo (PS) reacted displeased on Twitter. “A governor is not expected to act with seriousness, prudence and restraint, not to use words that are disgraceful and malicious to public institutions.”
