Government’s Plans for 2024 Budget and Potential Surprises, According to Rinkevičs

“I will leave it as a potential surprise when the time comes and we have to act,” Rinkevičs told journalists after meeting with Prime Minister Krišjāni Kariņa (JV) on Friday.

He expects that politicians from the government and opposition parties participating in the negotiations will approach this process responsibly and understand that mid-August was not chosen by chance, as it is the beginning of the budget process.

Rinkēvičs noted that the country should soon find out what kind of budget is expected in 2024. According to Rinkēvičs, it has already been said that by the end of August, the responsible ministries must have proposals, for example, on the school network and tax reforms, as well as on the issues of health guidelines, on which the government must work.

“It must be a government that knows that it will continue to work in full,” said the President.

“I will not start running ahead of events, because in that case the potential surprise effect will disappear in case something does not go ahead,” said Rinkēvičs, adding that there is still a month to go.

He is said to be well informed about the Prime Minister’s vision of what has already been done and what the plans are. “We are waiting for active action and action for a month,” the President emphasized to journalists.
