Government to donate more AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccines

The doses to be donated are from AstraZeneca (NA)

The Government authorized new donations of vaccines against the coronavirus: this time it will be 11 thousand doses of AstraZeneca that it will send to Granada, a small island state that is part of the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean Sea. The decision was announced through the Decree 807/2021, published this Friday in the Official bulletin.

The measure is known just a week after another shipment that was approved by national authorities for almost a million units from this same laboratory to five countries in different parts of the world.

The new delivery will be “free of charge in favor of the government of Granada” and was signed by the president Alberto Fernandez, the Chief of Staff, Juan Manzur, and the Ministers of Health, Carla Vizzotti, and Foreign Relations and Worship, Santiago Cafiero.

The lot will consist of “11,000 doses of the ChAdOx1 nCov-19 vaccine, known as AZD1222, from AstraZeneca UK Limited, designed to generate acquired immunity against COVID-19 ″.

To justify this donation, the Executive Branch indicated that as of November 3, 2021 75.7% of the Argentine population “has at least one dose of the vaccine ”against the coronavirus and 57% already have “the complete scheme” of immunization.

He also stressed that at the local level there has been “a constant decrease in the number of cases” of infected “for 20 weeks due to the advancement of vaccination and the maintenance of care measures.”

On the other hand, the Government stressed that the pandemic “constitutes a global challenge that requires a solidarity strategy aimed at equitable access” to these drugs and that, in this framework, “joint efforts between nations are substantial to limit the economic effects and health ”generated by it.

“In this understanding, guided by the principles of solidarity and fraternity, Our country deems it convenient to promote equitable and timely access to vaccines designed to generate acquired immunity against COVID-19 ″, the national authorities explained.

Just a few days ago, the Government authorized the donation of about a million doses of vaccines against COVID-19 prepared by this same laboratory and destined for five countries in America, Africa and Southeast Asia, under the same reasons already mentioned.

On that occasion it did so through various Decrees in which it specified that they were distributed as follows: 11,000 a Saint vincent and The grenadines, 18.000 a St. Lucia, 500.000 a Vietnam, 2.000 a Dominica, and 450,000 to Mozambique.

According to the latest data update of the Public Vaccination MonitorSince the beginning of the immunization campaign, 80,651,690 doses were distributed throughout the national territory, of which 64,965,087 were applied. Of that universe there are 35,938,527 people who received a dose and 27,982,625 who completed the scheme. In addition, 929,067 received an additional dose.

The Ministry of Health was designated as the “executing agency” of the Donation Contract, “which will be empowered to carry out the necessary acts for its correct implementation”. Thus, Carla Vizzotti was empowered to “sign, on behalf and on behalf of” Argentina, said contract and “to agree and sign modifications to it.”

On the other hand, the portfolio led by Vizzotti reported this Thursday, November 18 that, in the last 24 hours, 29 deaths and 1,755 new coronavirus infections were registered. With these data, the country accumulates a total of 5,312,089 positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Meanwhile, deaths were 116,341.
