Government of El Salvador announces application of fourth dose of vaccine against covid-19

The Government of El Salvador announced this Friday, March 18, that as of this day it will be applying a fourth dose of the vaccine against covid-19.

The news was given through a Facebook post made at 3 a.m. on the official account of President Nayib Bukele announced as “another good news in handling the pandemic.”

“Today, El Salvador becomes the first country in the world to make the fourth dose against #COVID19 available to its entire population (some countries already make it available but only to specific population groups) and the third to apply it to the elderly. 18 years old (after Israel and Chile),” the president wrote.

He added that “like the other doses, this is totally VOLUNTARY and is available to all Salvadorans and foreigners over 6 years of age.”

As reported by Bukele, this fourth dose can be applied after 90 days of having applied the third.

In addition, to be able to apply it in any vaccination it is not necessary to make an appointment, although the website www.vacunacioncovid19.gob.sv is always available.

Last year, the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, indicated that this fourth vaccine would only be for vulnerable groups, such as older adults, doctors and even children. And that this measure would respond to the arrival of ómicron, the new variant of covid-19 that has caused the fourth wave in El Salvador.

Israel was the first country to take the measure in December 2021, recommended by an Israeli government panel of experts, to be applied to people over 60 years of age and members of health personnel to help the country deal with the wave of the omicron variant. .

Then in January 2022, Chile became the first country in Latin America to apply the fourth dose and the second in the world after Israel.
