Government De Croo gains confidence from the Lower House, Maggie De Block becomes party leader for Open VLD

Two days after the new federal government’s declaration of government and one day after the debate on it (which ended late last night), the members of the Chamber of Representatives voted on confidence in the government.

The 7 parties of the De Croo government have a majority of 87 seats in the Chamber and 87 MPs have also effectively put their trust in the new government. CD&V MP Hendrik Bogaert, who previously expressed doubts about his party’s participation in the “Vivaldi coalition”, voted in favor.

Initially there were indeed doubts among the Flemish Christian Democrats about Vivaldi (a government of liberals, socialists, greens and the Flemish Christian Democrats). This is what party chairman Servais Verherstraeten also expressed. “But every day I got more enthusiasm for it,” he said with a wink to the Flemish liberals in his explanation of vote for the vote.

Independent MP Emir Kir, who was expelled from the PS at the beginning of this year, also gave his confidence, but because one PS MP was absent due to health problems, the vote came to 87 yes votes instead of 88.
