Ladies and gentlemen,
A coronavirus outbreak has been reported in many countries across Asia, Europe and America. To date, in Africa, only one suspected case has been reported in Abidjan (Republic of Côte d’Ivoire).
On January 23, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) asked all member states to be alert, even though African countries are considered to be at low risk.
Ladies and gentlemen,
It is a contagious disease which manifests itself by flu symptoms, namely: fever, sneezing, runny nose, sometimes coughing and it can progress to a serious respiratory infection which can lead to death.
It can be spread from one sick person to another, either through nasal secretions and saliva droplets from coughing, or from dirty objects. The possibility of transmission by wild or domestic animals has been mentioned.
In Guinea, no case has been reported yet. However, in accordance with WHO recommendations, the following measures have been taken:
– Strengthen surveillance measures at entry points (Conakry international airport, Conakry and Boké ports);
– Activate the devices for dealing with suspect cases in the CT-Epi (epidemiological treatment centers) of Conakry, Boké and CREM’S of Kindia;
– Apply standard and additional precautions in all health facilities in the event of severe respiratory infection;
– Strengthen communication on health barrier measures in the press, through the media and social networks.
The government urges the entire population to remain calm, as all information on this disease will be given to it according to the evolution of this epidemic.
We invite all residents to practice the following health barrier measures:
– Wash hands regularly with soap and water, after contact;
– Cover your nose and mouth if you have a runny nose, cough, sneeze, with a tissue (paper or tissue).
– Drive to a health facility, any person with suspicious symptoms, coming from the affected countries.
Health facilities are invited to make all arrangements for the detection and treatment of all possible cases.
