Government Airline Ticket Subsidies, Cheap Flying Era Begins

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Directorate General of Air Transportation Ministry of Communications provide stimulus or assistance in the form of subsidies airfare prices for prospective passengers who will do flight domestic from 23 October 2020 to 31 December 2020.

Director General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Novie Riyanto said that for flight tickets before January 1, 2021, prospective passengers will be exempted from the Aircraft Passenger Service Fee (PJP2U).

However, the elimination of PJP2U rates is only given for flights made at 13 airports which are the pillars of the tourism sector.

Specifically targeted at certain airports, the stimulus is expected not only to stimulate community mobility but also to stimulate the aviation, tourism and derivative sectors.

“It is hoped that with the stimulus, the public will get relief with various objectives which will ultimately have a significant impact on economic growth in areas such as the tourism industry, the MSME sector,” he said at an online press conference, Thursday (22/10).

The thirteen airports in question are Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang (CGK), Hang Nadim International Airport, Batam (BTH), Kualanamu International Airport, Deliserdang (KNO), and I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar (DPS).

Then, Kulon Progo International Airport, Yogyakarta (YIA), Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport, Jakarta (HLP), Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, Lombok, Praya (LOP) and Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang (SRG).

Then, Sam Ratulangi International Airport, Manado, (MDC), Labuan Bajo International Airport (LBJ), Silangit International Airport, North Tapanuli (DTB), Blimbingsari International Airport, Banyuwangi (BWX), and Adi Sucipto International Airport, Yogjakarta (JOG) .

In total, for the tourism transportation stimulus, the government disbursed a total of Rp. 216.55 billion, consisting of exemption from PJP2U tariffs of Rp. 175.74 billion and stimulus for flight facilities calibration of Rp. 40.81 billion.

Not only a stimulus for passengers, the government also provided relief to operators at the 13 airports.

This means that the cost of calibrating flight facilities and aircraft landing aids, which is usually charged to airport operators, for the next two months is borne by the government.

The goal is to ease the burden on airport operators’ operational costs due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“For flight operators and airport operators with the PJP2U stimulus, hopefully it will be good news, with the hope of increasing users of air transportation services. But on the other hand, aviation stakeholders are still required to obey SE Director General Number 13 of 2020,” concluded Novie.
