Santo Domingo, May 24 (EFE) .- A total of 150 beds were enabled in the Luis Eduardo Aybar Sanitary City, formerly Morgán, to treat cases of covid-19 after an increase in hospitalizations due to the disease, announced this Monday the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Mario Lama.

Of these, 104 are for intermediate hospitalizations and the rest for intensive care (ICU), Lama explained to the press.

Lama admitted that hospitals such as Dr. Marcelino Vélez Santana and Dr. Francisco E. Moscoso Puello are at full capacity, but affirmed that the Government “guarantees the response to all citizens affected by covid.”

“We are expanding where we have the possibility of expanding,” he said, while noting that fighting the disease is a “shared responsibility” for which he insisted on the call to the population to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The Ministry of Public Health notified 838 new infections of covid-19 and 4 deaths on Monday, increasing the total number of infected due to the disease to 284,567 and the number of deaths to 3,610.

Meanwhile, the fans in use amount to 201, for 45% of the availability.
