Goodbye to Xbox 20/20, Microsoft qualifies its plans

If you remember and look back, Microsoft committed to all its users to have a strategy called Xbox 20/20 in which they urged us to be attentive to their plans for the rest of the month. The idea is simple and appealing since basically they would release information about Xbox Series X and the future plans of the brand from May to the end of the year.

However, the publication was somewhat ambiguous, and many understood that Microsoft was going to do a monthly event, something that was not fulfilled for example in June, and we had to wait until July to see the Xbox Games Showcase. A first look at the future of the next generation console.

What Microsoft promised

But as I said, many people understood that it was going to be a monthly event, and reviewing the original post, and previously verified in the cache in case Microsoft had changed any comma, I have seen that the Americans never committed to such a thing, only to release information monthly on:

  • Xbox Series X.
  • Xbox Games Studios, with an emphasis on Halo.
  • Project xCloud (Cloud Gaming).
  • What’s new for the PC and console community.

Looking in perspective, all this has been fulfilled and each month we have had information on some of these points, and sometimes more than one of them combined.

Goodbye to Xbox 20/20

But Microsoft seems to have realized that many people have not understood it completely well, and although we know that this month there should be some kind of show or digital event, they have wanted to clarify it in the post original with a note. What is striking is that after updating the post they have not warned, or at least I have not seen that they have given it any kind of hype on official channels.

The update dates from August 8, and is the following:

Xbox has a massive year ahead of it, as outlined below. After re-evaluating our programming for the rest of the year, we decided to stop using the phrase “Xbox 20/20”, as it implied that we would be publishing information in only one way, through a dedicated monthly show.

We have a lot more to share with news about Xbox Series X, new games like Halo: Infinite, and cloud games via Xbox Game Pass. We are going to share that news in a number of ways. Sometimes it can be a dedicated show, sometimes YouTube videos, sometimes partnering with others, or sharing the latest via Xbox Wire. We want to stay flexible with how we connect with you.

So good, the idea remains the same than the original, except that the denomination will no longer be used. We will simply see and learn the news gradually, but do not expect a show every month.
