Good news! For the first time in 707 days, Antioquia does not register deaths from covid

For the first time since April 2020, the department of Antioquia did not register any deaths from covid-19 this Monday, March 14, in the midst of a historic day in which the numbers and victims of this disease continue to decline.

According to the report published by the Ministry of Health, the department only reported 27 new people infected with the virus, a figure below regions such as Cundinamarca (32), Santander (39) and the district of Bogotá (170).

According to data from the Antioquia Health Secretariat, the number of active cases also remained low, with only 196 sick people.

In terms of occupancy of the Intensive Care Units (ICU), of a total of 750 beds, 681 were occupied by patients with other pathologies and only 32 had covid patients in critical condition.

This Monday’s day adds to the low figures that Medellín has been registering in recent weeks, which also had for the first time several days in a row without deaths.

As the director of the INS, Marta Ospina, explained earlier this month, these indicators show that the country is beginning to approach a scenario in which the pandemic would be ending, in the midst of a transition towards an endemic.

“The whole world is already approaching the end of the pandemic and we are on the path that the best scenario shows. Mathematical models show a sustained decrease during the month of March and then a flattening of infections. Right now we are doing something that is very difficult and that is establishing that endemic threshold,” said Ospina.

As the authorities have expressed in recent days, the department maintains its goals to continue with the vaccination and continue to keep mortality at bay.

As of March 14, Antioquia accumulated a total of 11.1 million doses applied, for a total of 4.8 million people with their complete scheme.
