‘Goo Goo Muck’ Gets New Life Thanks to Netflix Hit ‘Wednesday’ | InstagramHLN

TVAfter the success of Kate Bush’s ‘Running up that hill’ through ‘Stranger Things’, the classic ‘Goo Goo Muck’ by punk band The Cramps is back in full force. Released in 1981, the track was used in the Netflix hit ‘Wednesday’. The song has been very popular ever since. Spotify streaming figures have even increased by more than 5,000%.

The coming-of-age series ‘Wednesday’, about the teenage life of the 16-year-old daughter of the famous ‘Addams Family’, has been on Netflix for less than two weeks and has already broken a record. In its first week of release, the series was watched for no less than 341 hours. And now a scene is also going viral on social media. It’s then that Wednesday heads to the Nevermore Academy prom and gives it all up on The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck.” The sadistic goth daughter does it completely stubbornly. TikTok and Twitter users are so fascinated by the unique dance moves that they teach themselves the routine and imitate it in countless videos.

As a result, the song “Goo Goo Muck” gets a second life. In the US, the classic’s streaming numbers jumped from 2,500 daily listening sessions to 134,000. That’s an increase of more than 5,000%. On Spotify, “Goo Goo Muck” has been listened to nearly ten million times. The song was included on The Cramps’ second album “Psychedelic Jungle” in 1981, but was released in 1962 by the original artists, Ronnie Cook and The Gaylads.

Own choreography

In an interview with Netflix, Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday, revealed that she came up with the “Goo Goo Muck” dance herself. “I felt very insecure about this,” admitted Jenna, “I choreographed the dance myself, and I think it’s very clear that I’m not a dancer or a choreographer.” The actress was inspired by archival footage of goths dancing in clubs in the 1980s, as well as Lisa Loring, who played Wednesday Addams in the 1960s TV series.

“Goo Goo Muck” isn’t the only well-known song from the popular series. The main character Wednesday also plays the cello. He played his own versions of Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop” and The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black”.
