Glacier breaks in Italy: at least 6 dead, at least 10 more missing

At least six people have died in the Italian Alps when a glacier ruptured, causing an avalanche of ice, snow and boulders. The victims are mountaineers, Italian media report.

At least eight people were injured in the massive glacier break on Mount Marmolada in the Dolomites. In addition, more than ten people are considered missing. Emergency services deploy several helicopters and rescue teams with dogs.

Marmolada

The accident happened on the normal climbing route to the top of Marmolada. At least two groups of climbers would have been affected. The nationality of those involved has not yet been released.
