The prefecture of Gironde reinforces the measures of temporary restrictions of the uses of water. For what reasons ? Because the flows of the rivers, in Gironde, continue to decrease. “Some are now in great difficulty”, assures the State.

The prefect of Gironde, Etienne Guyot, consulted the members of the operational unit for low water management. And he issued an order aimed at strengthening “temporary restrictions on the use of water”.

Many prohibitions

What does this order say? First, it puts the watersheds of Virvée-Moron, Barbanne-Lavié-Palais, Gamage-Escouach and Gravouze-Durèze-Soulège in crisis.

Which is not without consequence. Thus, the watering of vegetable gardens (including non-agricultural greenhouses) is prohibited from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Are also prohibited:

watering lawns, gardens, green spaces, filling public and private swimming pools, washing vehicles, exterior cleaning

With regard to agricultural uses, withdrawals for irrigation are prohibited.

Individuals, communities, farmers, businesses: everyone will be checked

This decree, putting in place restrictions, will it be respected? In all cases, checks will be carried out by the State services, we are assured within the prefecture of Gironde. The following will also take part in these checks: the public prosecutor’s offices, the French office for biodiversity, the departmental directorate for territories and the sea and the national gendarmerie.
And no one will escape it: “These checks will concern all types of users: farmers, communities, businesses and individuals. »

Catchment areas on heightened alert

Other watersheds, those of the Chenal du Gua-Deyre-Talais, Gaillardon-Euille, Fongaband-Langranne and Lidoire, are placed on heightened alert.

Regarding agricultural uses, sampling will be prohibited two days a week; Thursday and Sunday.

Note: this order places the Isle downstream axis on “vigilance” without introducing any specific restrictions.

“Ensuring efficient water management”

For the time being, no restriction measure has been triggered for uses from the drinking water supply network, which comes from deep aquifers that are not very sensitive to low water levels. However, special vigilance is more important than ever.

“Indeed, these aquifers are heavily used due to the samples taken throughout the year, specifies the prefecture of Gironde. It is necessary to ensure efficient water management, in particular for uses that use water from boreholes or the drinking water network, even in sectors where no restriction measures have been taken. . To be effective, these citizens’ reflexes must be long-term. »
