Girardi warns of the need to take sanitary measures in time to carry out a safe plebiscite

Before the realization of the plebiscite to find out whether or not Chileans want to change the current Constitution, the senator Guido Girardi (PPD) noted that “We must take sanitary measures from today” to have a safe process.

In a press conference held in the National Congress, the senator declared that “the lack of definition must be done with the greatest responsibility, but the experts and epidemiologists who meet with the Health and Future commissions tell us that the government has little commitment to listen to their recommendations ”.

According to Girardi “95% of Chileans who are not yet infected may be ‘dry grass’ in the event of a violent outbreak, therefore an intense educational campaign is required” in order to report on how to take care of yourself so as not to expose yourself to a possible contagion.

In addition, the PPD senator described a “Notable abandonment of duties” regarding health care: “We are one of the countries that less meets social distancing and hand washing, we urge the government to intensify the communication effort now! The plebiscite will be safe if the sanitary measures are complied with ”.

For the same reason, the legislator pointed out that those who are infected should not go to the polling stations.

For the same reason, he stated that “We ask the Executive for more rigor in this matter”. In this regard, the senator believes that the following measures should be implemented:

• Previous educational campaign
• Electoral propaganda with sanitary measures
• PCR to all the members, representatives and those who will remain in the polling places the day before the vote
• Deferred hours for older adults
• Distance the ballot boxes and secret chambers
• Electronic voting or mobile table for those infected
