Giorgetti Reassures Banks: New Rule on Extra-Banking Margins and Adjusted Collection Rates

Giorgetti reassures the banks – “The measure proposed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, shared and approved by the Council of Ministers, arises in the wake of already existing rules in Europe on the subject of extra-banking margins. At the same time the measure, for the purposes of safeguarding stability of banking institutions, also provides for a maximum ceiling for the contribution which cannot exceed 0.1% of total assets”, Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti specified in a note.

“The banking institutions that have
already adjusted the collection rates as recommended on 15 February with a specific note from Bank of Italy, a recommendation later recalled by Minister Giorgetti on the occasion of the ABI assembly on 5 July,
will have no significant impact as a consequence of the rule approved yesterday in the CDM”, the Ministry of Economy and Finance clarified in a note.

Urso: “Right standard” – “The rule on the extra profits of the banks was “proposed in the CDM by Economy Minister Giorgetti, who is a particularly well-prepared person and always attentive to the accounts” and he “obtained unanimous consent from all the members of the CDM, therefore it was approved and presented at the press conference”, said the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso on La7. “It is a measure that already exists in Europe – Urso pointed out -. We intervened to restore justice. It’s neither right nor left, so it’s right.”
