Gims talks about his struggle with Guillaume Canet for the film Asterix and Obélix

A dispute explosive almost ended the friendship between rapper Gims and director Guillaume Canet, because of the film Asterix and Obelix. Gims goes behind the scenes of this altercation in an exclusive interview.

Gims: a direct man

The famous rapper Gims is not afraid to say what he thinks, everyone knows it. He has shown it several times in recent months. For example, by reacting to the pyramid controversy, which has attracted much criticism on social networks.

But this is not the first time that Gims expresses his frankness. Gims recently gave an unfiltered interview to influencer Yeux Ébènes, on her YouTube channel. He mentioned one of the many films he was offered: Asterix and Obelix, The middle Empiredirected by Guillaume Canet.

Furthermore, the singer declined the offer to star in the film. He explained that the role he was offered didn’t suit him. So, those who watched the film should not be surprised not to have seen the rapper in it.

The singer explains:

“Guillaume Canet contacts me and tells me he’s on a big film, I tell him it’s cool. He told me: “We have Zlatan Ibrahimovitch, there is even DiCaprio who accepted””

Gims confided that the script of the film had interested him.

“So I’m waiting for him to offer me a role, there’s DiCaprio anyway,” he confided.

Alas, the artist fell from his cloud.

“We had a headache”

Gims was to be played in the film by Guillaume Canet, the husband of Marion Cotillard. He had been interested in the script, but had refused the role that had been offered to him, because he didn’t suit her.

The artist says:

“The next day he sent me the script. He said to me: “Well there you go, so you are on a boat, it’s your boat. And you see we have a key scene in Asterix, each time you have the pirates who arrive on the water and there, they see the Gauls. You will be able to create your own wooden glasses that correspond to the era”. »

Subsequently, Guillaume made an unexpected proposal in Gims. He told him :

“There, we thought of Sinking like never (editor’s note: in reference to the title Sapés comme Jameille)… Because the boat is sinking”

The singer replies:

“There, I read the thing and I sent a message to Guillaume telling him that normally there is DiCaprio (…) And then Angèle you put him in Falbala, BigFlo and Oli they are at the max, all the everyone is at max, except me. »

However, the director didn’t like the statement.

“We had a headache, he sent me a stone. We no longer calculated,” confides the artist.

Luckily, the rapper later revealed that everything was back to normal after a discussion with the famous director. They thus managed to understand and respect each other.
