‘Gijón Reboots’. It is the name of the local agreement signed between the Gijón City Council, unions and employers for the next two years. A pact that will mobilize 53 million euros (26’8 in 2020 and 26’2 in 2021) intended for economic promotion, employment and tourism.
In a first phase, a package of actions will be launched that make up a ‘shock plan’ designed to mitigate the consequences of measurements containment of COVID-19, among which a call for aid aimed at self-employed persons and micro-SMEs in the sectors most affected by the cessation of activities as a result of the declaration of the state of alarm stands out. This call, endowed with 5 million euros, will be launched in the month of June and it is specified in two lines of action:
- Maintenance of employment as an employee. The objective is the return to work of people affected by a temporary employment regulation file (ERTE), with the help of 1,500 euros for each full-time worker to return to work. This line is endowed with a budget of 3.5 million and an estimate of more than 2,300 workers reincorporated employees.
- Business reopening or economic activity. Its purpose is to subsidize expenses incurred for the reopening of establishments or reboot of activities: expenses of adaptation and acquisition of protection elements for workers and clients, reforms and improvements in commercial spaces or any other expense associated with the reopening of establishments, or restarting the activity, which is not a personnel expense. The endowment of this line will be 1.5 million euros and may benefit 3,000 establishments.
They will be able to benefit from this announcement freelancers and companies (micro-SMEs), that have been seen affected for the suspension of activities decreed by the state of alarm and that they had been granted a temporary employment regulation file, that they had seen their turnover decrease by 75% with respect to the average of the previous semester or that, given the circumstances, they had closed their business or work center and proceeded to reopen it.

In the field of job It has been agreed, among other measures, the implementation of a extraordinary employment plan, at a cost of almost 3 million euros, financed entirely with the municipal budget and which will reach 100 people, which will be hired directly by the City Council. The county secretary of Workers Commissions, Víctor Manuel Roza, has assured that the objective is “leave no one behind”. For Roza, the sealed agreement should be an example for other municipalities.
