The GGD and the municipality are satisfied with the number of corona infections in Groningen. There is still a lot of testing, but the number of positive tests is still relatively low.
The number of infections is now below 100 per week. Most infections are now among young people, because many of them have not yet been vaccinated. Nevertheless, Peter Jorna of the GGD does not think that the recent relaxation of, for example, events and night catering has started too early. “But we have to do that with the right measures. If you are tested, you will receive a green tick in your app. Then it is safe to finally do the fun things together that we have had to do without for a long time. We also see that many young people sign up for vaccinations. That helps to create an image where we have ended up in calm waters.”
Test for access
Yet last weekend it turned out that many people can enter with a negative test certificate from someone else. For now, the municipality is not worried about that. “Once we find out, we will of course enforce it,” says Mayor Koen Schuiling. “But I also appeal to the people. I understand it’s fun to go out, but we still have to deal with those infections and variants of the virus. We pay attention, but I also understand that society wants to be a little free.”
