It was another night for super striker Erling Haaland. The Norwegian from Manchester City scored five times in the round of 16 of the FA Cup against Luton Town FC.

An even bigger boost than the 6-2 victory for City coach Pep Guardiola will have been the sparkling play and two fit stars. Before halftime there was a great performance in Luton from Haaland and Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

Haaland and De Bruyne missed large parts of this season through injuries, but with the most important months coming up – the end of the English league and the knockout stages of the Champions League – they are back. And how.

Haaland completed a hat-trick after forty minutes, three times on a pass from De Bruyne. One tap-in, one brutally shot ball after he was sent deep and one subtle marker over Dutch Luton goalkeeper Tim Krul, who ultimately had to fish six times.

Because after the break, Haaland scored two more, one of which was assisted by the Belgian. So five goals for Haaland, four assists for de Bruyne. Mateo Kovačić scored the sixth goal.

Afterwards, no one was talking about the two goals from Luton midfielder Clark and two assists from Ross Barkley. Clark’s first was especially beautiful: a pegel of about thirty meters, with the inside of the foot in the top corner.

Incidentally, a setback for City was the withdrawal of Jack Grealish, who had to leave injured before half time. At City, Dutchman Nathan Aké played as left back for three quarters of the match, while compatriot Tahith Chong completed ninety minutes at Luton.

Leicester and Newcastle through

Elsewhere in England, Leicester City defeated Bournemouth 0-1 after extra time, thanks to a goal from Issahaku Fatawu. It took a little longer at Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. Only after penalties (1-1 after 120 minutes) did Newcastle win because goalkeeper Martin Dubravka saved two penalties.
